Introducing the Advent traditions in Hungary, the Embassy of Hungary organized a Christmas party and charity event for the members and friends of the Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide (AAFSW) at the Embassy of Hungary in Washington D.C. on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Dr. Joanna Athanasopoulos Owen, President of AAFSW and Ms. Sheila Switzer, AAFSW Program Chair and the initiator of the event, welcomed the more than 70 guests on this festive occasion at our Embassy. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of H.E. László Szabó, M.D., Ambassador of Hungary to the United States, who talk about Hungary and the Advent traditions. Christmas caroling, candle lighting ceremony, and gingerbread decorating prepared by the colleagues of the Embassy put the cherry on top of the holiday cheer. The program ended with the performance of The Életfa Hungarian Folk Band and the presentation of wonderful dancers. The Tisza Ensemble provided some know-how during a brief workshop for those who wanted to learn a few steps. Delicious Hungarian buffet dinner and dancing were the closing elements of the unique and jolly night.
