Katalin Novák, the first female President of Hungary was inaugurated today in Budapest. Mrs. Novák emphasized that Hungary condemns Putin’s aggression, the armed invasion of a sovereign state. She also highlighted that Hungary wants peace and the country has taken in more than 700,000 Ukrainian refugees since February. After the outbreak of the war, Hungary launched the biggest humanitarian aid operation in its history (Hungary has offered 37 million euros worth of aid to Ukraine at the High-Level International Donors' Conference for Ukraine held in Warsaw on May 5th). President Novák has also made it clear that Hungary has met its commitments as member of the European Union and NATO. In the same context, she reinforced that Hungary supports Ukraine’s accession to the community of European countries.
On a personal note, Mrs. Novák emphasized that her actions will be guided by her personal conviction rooted in Christian values.
