Registration:
Register for the above consular days by e-mail at consul.was@mfa.gov.hu, no appointments can be made by phone! Please indicate in the subject line that you wish to apply for the extramural consular days!
Please include the following information in your email regarding the matter(s) to be handled:
• full birth and married name,
• exact date of birth,
• personal identification number,
• exact expiration date of passport (in case of passport handling),
• telephone and email contact details,
• a brief description of the matter(s) to be handled.
Appointments are always filled in the order of arrival, we try to respond to all applicants within 48 hours. Please wait for our response, calling the embassy by phone or urging a response will make registration more difficult.
Types of cases that can be processed:
1. private passport
2. identity card
3. domestic civil registration
4. notification of foreign settlement
5. customer portal registration
6. citizenship certificate
7. simplified naturalization
We do not perform on-site authentication during the days of the outplacement.
It is not possible to issue a temporary private passport due to the lack of technical conditions.
In all cases, bring with you the printed and completely filled-in BUT NOT SIGNED forms downloaded from our website (or listed below or sent by e-mail), the application attachments, valid photo identification documents and the consular fee by bank card (VISA, Mastercard)! Cash and check payments are not possible.
If you are able, please bring 1-1 photocopy of all required documents in addition to the original document, this will shorten and facilitate the administration. Thank you very much!
Please note that a flat rate of 18 USD per customer is required to be charged for the service, regardless of the service provided or the number of services.

Cases that can be handled on a consular day in more detail:
Passport application
Please bring the following documents with you to extend your passport or apply for a passport:
· expired or still valid Hungarian passport
· residence card
· in the case of an expired passport, another valid Hungarian or American document with a photo proving identity (passport, ID card, driver's license, green card)
· Hungarian birth certificate
· if married, Hungarian marriage certificate
· in the case of a child under 12, 1 passport photo taken with a white background (without glasses, teeth should not be visible)
For all applicants over 12 years of age, a personal appearance is mandatory.

If you wish to apply for a minor's first passport and register their birth, you will find the documents required for the procedure in the information on domestic birth registration.
When applying for a passport for a minor under the age of 18, both parents must be present in person. If this is an individual case, please indicate this when applying so that we can find a solution.
Identity card
Only permanent identity cards can be applied for, and only Hungarian citizens can apply for them. Replacement is only possible within 60 days of the expiry date of the previous document.
Documents required for the procedure:
· previous Hungarian identity card and address card
· valid Hungarian passport/driving license/Hungarian birth certificate
· foreign document suitable for personal identification, if your Hungarian document is not valid at the time of the procedure
· filling out a form is not necessary.
It is not possible to carry out procedures related to electronic signatures (E-sign) either at the outposted consular offices or at the foreign mission.
Domestic civil registration
Domestic civil registration cases can include: birth, marriage, divorce, registered partnership, death.
For all domestic registration cases, the original US birth certificate (an official copy is also acceptable) or a copy certified by our embassy must be submitted (for authentication, the consul must always see the original document).
The registration procedures are free of charge, however, if the need arises to authenticate the original document, the fee will be charged.
Registration of birth
Documents required for the procedure:
· the child's original US birth certificate
· the child's US passport (if available)
· the parents' Hungarian marriage certificate
· valid identification document of the parents (passport, or identity card, or driving license. The Hungarian parent's Hungarian identity card/passport is required for the procedure).

Marriage registration
Documents required for the procedure:
· the original US marriage certificate (Please check whether the date of birth of the married parties is on the certificate. If this information is missing from the certificate, a certified copy of the notification of intention to marry form must be requested from the competent US office.),
· the valid Hungarian identity document of the Hungarian party(ies) (passport, or ID card, or driver's license),
· the valid US identity document of the American party (passport, or driver's license)
· the birth certificates of the married parties,

If the marriage of the Hungarian citizen that is to be registered is not the first marriage, in this case it is necessary to bring the divorce decree of the previous marriage, accompanied by a certified Hungarian translation. If the presented document is in English or German, we can arrange for the consular certification of the Hungarian translation for a fee.
In this case, the provisions described in the section on Domestic Registration of Divorce also apply.
In the case of a party who is not a Hungarian citizen, the divorce decree is also required, but it does not need to be translated.
Registration of Divorce
Documents required for the procedure:
· the original US divorce decree with a certified Hungarian translation,
a valid Hungarian identity document (passport/identity card/driving license) of the Hungarian party(ies),
· Hungarian marriage certificate,

If the original document is in English or German, we can provide consular authentication of the Hungarian translation for a fee. For documents in other languages, only translations prepared by the National Translation Office (www.offi.hu) can be accepted.
Registration of death
Documents required for the procedure:
· the original US death certificate
· all Hungarian documents of the deceased Hungarian citizen: valid or expired Hungarian passport, identity card, residence card, birth and marriage certificates, etc.
· valid personal identification document of the person applying for registration

Notification of settlement abroad
· valid Hungarian passport or identity card
· Hungarian residence card (this must be submitted during the procedure)

Notification of settlement abroad is a free procedure.
Customer Portal Registration (Ügyfélkapu)
Documents required for the procedure:
· valid Hungarian passport/identity card/driving license
· valid passport or identity card for EEA citizens
· valid passport for other cases
· no form required
Verification of Citizenship

Simplified Naturalization Application

A non-Hungarian citizen may apply for naturalization or re-naturalization at a reduced rate if:
- you or your ancestors were Hungarian citizens or you can prove your Hungarian origin, or
- you have been married for at least ten years to a person who is a Hungarian citizen at the time of submitting the citizenship application, or
- you have been married for at least five years to a person who is a Hungarian citizen at the time of submitting the citizenship application, and they have a child together.
What are the additional conditions for naturalization?
- Knowledge of the Hungarian language, this will be checked by the consul receiving the application through a short interview.
- The applicant has no criminal record under Hungarian law and there are no criminal proceedings pending against him/her.
- The applicant's naturalization does not violate the public security and national security of Hungary.
