Today, we remember the heroes and martyrs of the 1848-1849 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight and commemorate the 30th anniversary of the unveiling of the congressional statue of Hungarian Governor Lajos Kossuth at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. On this very special occasion, let’s dive into the history behind one of only four busts (Wallenberg, Churchill, Havel, Kossuth) honoring non-Americans in the Capitol, which was offered to U.S. Congress to celebrate and commemorate the friendship and shared values between the peoples of the United States and of Hungary.
